The Master Skill to Learn in the Digital Economy

Lately I have been absorbed by the idea of ‘Meta Skills’. In a world where everyone seems to be sprinting to an outcome in life [myself included] it made me wonder how exactly to hack my efforts to greater long term results.

Naturally, I have been deep in the webs of understanding how exactly to become better at a fundamental level, which starts with the mind.

I came across this quote that resonated with me;

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. ”― Alvin Toffler

From my understanding this referred to as – the ability to learn the skills necessary to learn more skills with ease.

I believe they are the bedrock for super charging growth.

There are three key aspects to meta skill development that Gustavo Razzetti explains.

3 aspects of Meta Skills ability

  1. Self-awareness is much more than simply ‘know oneself’; it’s crucial to understand reality and others.Combine this with making critical decisions in your career, skills or partners and you see the impact.
  2. Creativity is not just about developing new ideas — the changing reality requires us to improvise and solve complex problems.What may have worked in the past, today would require creativity that has not been thought of yet.
  1. Resilience is critical to face adversity and recover from failure — discovering new solutions requires experimenting and failing more often than not.Adopting an ‘experimentation’ mindset can help in not emotionally attaching to outcomes or self labelling.

This brings to me all to common saying, where ‘change is the only constant’ that invites us to be brave in embracing the unknown.

Over the next 4 months I will be experimenting with ways to invite self awareness, being creative to solve my problems as well as the mental fortitude of resilience.

To wrap this up;

The key is to reconnect with our — intrinsically human — ability to adapt. And to take ownership of change rather than resist what we don’t know or can’t control. – Gustavo Razzetti
