I will be the first to admit that I spend way too much time thinking.
In school we were told to have thoughtful answers but that created room for over analysis.
The point – being in a constant state of ‘thinking’ wastes precious time.
I understand truly, because being in a state of thinking allows for inaction which is perhaps what we really fear.
When we act, we are empowering our locus of control into ‘doing’ what we need to succeed, allowing growth to flourish into our lives in ways we did not realize.
So what we lack then, is the ability to act which creates delay and therefore we do not see our results growing.
Remedy? → Picking a focus is enough.
Once we choose a direction everything else falls into place to start the momentum.
Why? → one focus → one scope → your mind can begin to work within reasonable guidelines
Research has shown that the more definitive the goal/outcome is the more actionable the path to achieve will be.
Just knowing the specifics of the focus is all you need to start;
- ‘what’ → Your focus that you select without too much thought to learn
- ‘why’→ Deeper long term goal or vision
- ‘when’ [optional] may lead to unnecessary pressure or on the flip side is the intensity necessary to learn aggressively.
How are you going to accomplish it?
Many times we over think the ‘how’. Planning all the steps so that we feel confident. However there is no guarantee that it will work.
The only valid data we need is the feedback from taking action. This means the ‘how’ is not always clear but as long as you are taking action, and allowing for data to improve upon, the ‘how’ will emerge itself
Takeaway:
- Define the focus and take action. Remember, you are allowed to pivot and make mistakes
- Being specific helps, although the more you act and let results guide you, the clear action path will reveal itself
