Forget Morning routines. Have Bedtime rituals

I have read countless morning routine articles claiming ‘there secret routine sauce.’

The thing is, they all feel the same because all of them include the same activities.

Sunlight, coffee, journal, deep breathing, stretching etc, all of which are actually perfect, although I will dare to be different and say this;

I personally find my bedtime routine more important.

Let me explain.

While others praise their morning routine, I believe my mornings are allowed to be fluid in order to start the day the way it needs too.

I am however, learning that my bedtime routine is extremely critical.

Why?

Because it is the precursor for the rest my body and mind needs in order to feel great the next day.

So here are my bedtime rituals that I enjoy that set the following day for success.

  1. Regardless of the activity, aim to be in bed before midnight [12am].
  2. I’ve learnt that my body and mind is better at deep introspective thinking before bed. Having a journal and even sitting with my thoughts is more comfortable in making peace with.
  3. Alone time for self care like meditating or stretching all the tension and kinks of the day greatly effects the healing cycle of my body.
  4. Reading a chapter of a deeply insightful book, usually philosophy, spirituality, or the mind. Since I am already in a pondering state, this content marinates with me while I sleep.
  5. I am all about setting the space, so soft instrumental music is a must along with ambient lighting.

I believe what many don’t realize when we share these routines is the reason why they work for us.

There is no absolute way to do anything. Most of it being a matter of preference.

All content you consume is merely a perspective of how someone else has experienced it.

If anything, take what parts you like and mix it to your liking that works for you.

End of the day, do you.
